Best friend, companion, beloved family member; some people consider their pet pooch to be all of these things. But have you ever considered that your pet may, in fact, be the perfect example of mindful living?
Too often, we allow the present to slip away from us. We live in guilt of the past, fear of the future; we let the one thing that we are ever guaranteed, the present, to pass us by unnoticed.
If only we were to stop and listen, we would be surprised to discover that some of our furry friends are in fact the perfect, living example of what it means to be truly ‘present’.
As Eckhart Tolle writes in his book, ‘Guardians of Being’:
“While a dog loves to chew bones, the human mind loves problems… Every animal has important lessons to teach us if we would only stop, look and listen.”
(and, if you don't have a pet, you can use The Law Of Attraction to find one).
Animals have no worries relating to either the past or the future; for animals, it is all about how they instinctively live in a state of peace – of Zen habits. Whilst we cannot and should not forget about our pasts or our futures, learning to be fully in the present, as our pets are, can prove extremely powerful for improving our spiritual well-being.
Your dog will savor even the simplest of moments, so, do the same! Instead of dreaming ahead to when you will be leaving work or going on holiday, bring yourself back to the present and learn to appreciate what is already in front of you.
It may be something as simple as the cup of tea you're currently drinking.
Let your beloved pooch help you to feel better at home in the present.
Turn off your phone, shut down your laptop, and enjoy taking your dog for a walk or even watching your pet as it plays and rests.
A dog or cat will never question their master, their trust is truly boundless.
Show the same trust in the universe that your pet shows in you, and your life can be improved for the better. You are the creator of your reality, but to give you confidence in your role as creator of your life, you need to trust that the universe is working in your favor.
Having the kind of trust that your pet has is rare and takes time to develop, but learn to trust in yourself and in others and your world can begin to immediately transform for the better.
Every dog owner or animal lover of any kind should already know about the unconditional love that an animal can offer. There is no love more unconditional than the love of a pet; it is this pure, unfaltering love from our animals that should prove a reminder to us to show the same love to the people in our lives.
Learn how to love unconditionally, without judgment or conditions. When you become love, your life becomes a mirror of this.
Pets are fiercely loyal. Let this teach you the importance of showing loyalty to those that you hold dearest. Be it loyalty to your loved ones, or even yourself, stay true to who you are and in your love for the most important people in your world.
If you are loyal to others, there is more of a chance that others will be loyal to you too.
Watching our pets, we are reminded of the importance of celebrating life. By always being fully present, their lives are an endless celebration, rejoicing in everything they find and do. Look for the joy in the simplest of things.
Animals live their lives free of self-consciousness; they have no opinion of themselves, they simply wish to enjoy the moment.
Following your pet’s example, never take yourself too seriously, and remember to always take pleasure at the moment. Get these two things right and happiness can surely be yours.
As mentioned above, you should try to always be present and trust the Universe in what your life will bring you. It can be hard sometimes, but our Law of Attraction toolkit has the resources you need to start your journey!
