Are you settling for less in life? This is undoubtedly a tough question for anybody to answer. After all, nobody wants to admit to themselves that they may have settled for a life they know is not good enough for them or their dreams.

We are often warned, perhaps by our parents, teachers or even friends, to never ‘settle’. This is because to ‘settle’ would mean not making the very best of an extraordinary opportunity; the greatest opportunity of all being life.

5 Signs You Are Settling For Less In Life

So, how do you know if you are guilty of settling for a life that you do not want? How do you know if you are settling for a relationship, career path or way of life that is not serving you?

It can be hard to spot these signs, but I have put together a list of things to look out for.

Take a look at these 5 signs that you have settled, to determine once and for all whether or not you are living your life to its fullest.

1. Mornings Are Tough

Do you struggle to get out of bed in the mornings?

Unless you have had a particularly exciting night, if you find yourself continually hitting the snooze button and are reluctant to leave your bed, this could be a sign that you are settling for a life that does not serve you.

Perhaps you are dreading waking up and going to work? Or you are constantly worrying about what the day might bring you? These could all be signs that you are settling for less in your life.

A life that excites you and fulfills your needs is a life where you are keen to get up in the morning and seize the day! If you are not experiencing this, you deserve better.

2. You Wish The Time Away

Are you forever watching the clock? Do you count down the minutes until lunchtime, the hours until home time or even the days left until the weekend?

When we are settling for a life that we don’t really enjoy, we can often find ourselves wishing the day away. You may feel that you often wish the time would go quicker so that you could go home or spend time with loved ones?

If this sounds like you, then this is a sure sign that you are dissatisfied with your current circumstances. Those who enjoy their lives complain about never having enough time! It is true what they say: time flies when you are having fun. When you are not, time can be a drag.

3. Jealousy Is A Problem

There is nothing wrong with wanting the best; however, if you notice that you spend more time envious of the lives of others and the things that they enjoy rather than appreciating your own blessings, you are most probably settling.

If you constantly find yourself comparing your life with someone else’s and wishing for their life, instead of enjoying yours, then this could be a sign that you are settling for less. It can be hard to be happy for someone who is enjoying life, especially if you feel that you are not enjoying yours right now.

If you are always comparing yourself to others and becoming more jealous, then the reason for it could be that you are not getting what you want out of your own life.

4. You Dream Of A Life Different To Yours

Our innermost thoughts and dreams can often indicate to us what it is that we want most. If you find yourself dreaming of a different life and doing different things then it can be an indication that perhaps you want to take a different route in your life.

It is perfectly natural for our daydreams to sometimes be far removed from the lives that we presently live; however, if you find yourself regularly daydreaming of a life that bears absolutely no resemblance to yours then you might want to consider this a sign that your present life isn’t living up to your expectations.

5. You Rely On Escapism

There are many forms of escapism out there; food, alcohol, video games, movies, drugs. Not every form of escapism is bad for you, for example, regularly taking time out to get lost in a book or enjoy drinks with friends can be important for your happiness. Having said that, if you are deliberately filling your time with many forms of escapism then you might want to ask yourself what it is that you are trying to escape from?

If by now it has become perfectly clear that you have in fact been settling, then it is the time that you do something about it. But what to do? The most important thing that you can do is be willing to change things. Be willing and keep looking. You may not know what for, but have faith, you’ll know when you find it.
