Mental fatigue can cause you to have difficulty concentrating, cause irritability, anxiety, loss of passion in work, emotional sensitivity as well as a lack of motivation.

You may feel hopeless and anxious, maybe even depressed. These can all be symptoms of mental fatigue.

Your mental energy may be very low too, as well as being stressed that things will not improve. Being very emotional (in a negative way) can be a big sign that you are suffering from mental fatigue.

Loss of appetite can be a physical symptom/sign that you experience. Eating can be affected by stress levels, just like you can stress eat, you can also lose your appetite.

This can be a sign of mental fatigue and is often linked to stress.

You can also be experiencing a lack of motivation. This links to your loss of appetite, as you have no energy to cook or eat.

The stress could be causing symptoms where you could be anxious and feel sick, thus not wanting to eat.

4. Increased Irritability

Negative emotions can be a sign of mental fatigue, especially increased irritability. This may be because your brain is overwhelmed and is not behaving the way that it should.

Stress and depression can often cause people to become quite irritable, as well as causing possible mood swings. If you find yourself constantly irritated and angry, this may be a sign of mental fatigue.

5. Withdrawing From Responsibility

You may find yourself not spending as much time on your responsibilities as you normally would, this could even be spending time with friends and family, you may also feel too tired to make the effort to go out and socialize.

You could be procrastinating or withdrawing from your previous responsibilities because you just feel too overwhelmed and do not have enough energy. This could be a sign of mental fatigue.

If mental fatigue persists it can be very serious, so knowing how to stop and prevent it is a great thing to learn.

1. Get Enough Sleep

In order to be well rested and have enough energy to start your day off well, it is recommended that you get seven to eight hours sleep.

Having proper rest can help prevent mental and physical fatigue. Not having enough sleep will cause low energy, low motivation, and productivity. When you sleep you are recharging from your long busy day and need good sleep to re-energize, so get as much as you can.

2. Physical Exercise

Exercising can really help to activate your brain and help you to stay awake for longer too which can really help with preventing mental and physical fatigue. If you can exercise as much as possible, it can really help with staying awake and energized.

Exercising also helps to release endorphins into your body, which helps you to feel happier and experience happy emotions, which is also a great benefit if you are feeling slightly drained.

3. Exercise Your Mind

If your mind gets lazy and is not very active, this won't help with mental fatigue. Even just being able to do some crosswords or word searches will help your brain to stay active.
