A new year resolution represents the opportunity to start again; the chance to wipe the slate from last year clean and to set good intentions for the year ahead.
But rather than jumping on the bandwagon of the frantic resolution setting; faddy diets, grand schemes for total life transformation, and a new gym membership – what can you do to make this new year really count?
How can you give yourself resolutions that will not only make for a happier you but also a happier world in general?
New year resolutions are an important way to get some serious change into your life.
Resolutions can also make you feel like your turning a new corner in your life.
If you want to change your life in some simple ways but could create a big impact then consider these 6 new year resolutions.
Whether you do it for two minutes first thing in the morning or last thing at night. This year, aim to make meditation an important part of your everyday routine.
Daily meditation is a great way of freeing yourself of any worries, stresses, or general rubbish you may have experienced during your day, helping you to stay on track and function as the very best version of yourself.
Most people will usually think up New Year’s Resolutions that will ultimately, fill up more of their time.
When you are looking to create positive change in your life, it can be tempting to give yourself massive to-do lists and endless goals.
To a lot of people, this seems like the most productive thing to do. However, it’s rarely the best way to go.
Setting yourself massive targets and adding more doing to your life may just put you under too much pressure. The result?
You’re left feeling even more exhausted and unhappy than the year before!
So what should you do? Rather than adding more stuff to your life, why not start by removing any of the ‘junk’ already in it? People, situations, chores, experiences…
Make this the year of saying no to what doesn’t bring you joy and give yourself more time to enjoy and expand on the things that do.
Will next year be the year you take responsibility for your happiness?
Think about the year just gone and ask yourself what maybe went wrong and most importantly, what went right.
Then consider how you were responsible for all of these things and how this year you can use that same responsibility to change things for the better.
No one else is going to give you the year you deserve, so what are you going to do to make it happen for yourself?
Forget faddy diets, make next year the year you start your journey of consistent and common-sense positive living. That means moderation – with the sweets and treats AND the salads.
Aim to move every day for at least 30 minutes, be it running around with your kids, at the gym, at a dance class, or walking the dog.
Regular physical movement will not only help you to look good but feel good. Find something you enjoy and make it a habit to set you up for the entire year.
A single year consists of 365 days (or 366 days on leap years)…. So, if you want to make this your best year yet, you’ve got to look at ways you can make the very best of every single day.
And when you consider that the majority of people spend most days at work, surely the best solution would be to do work you actually enjoy.
Easier said than done, I know. But is there a way you could begin to incorporate your passions into your career choices?
Next year should be the year you want to jump out of bed every morning, so go on, take a chance!
And friends. And anyone who means anything to you for that matter.
Make next year the year of connections; if this is the year of clearing the clutter and focusing on what’s most important to you, then this goes for loved ones too.
Spend more quality time with the people who matter most.
Don’t wait to see your Mum and Dad only on the holidays or for birthdays.
Stop letting work or a busy schedule put you off making plans with friends or even your kids.
