1. Know That It Gets Better

This is not wishful thinking, but a guarantee. No matter how hard you’ve had to fight or for how long, never lose sight of that brighter future. You have the power to do, be and overcome anything.

So it doesn’t matter how things look right now, in your mind’s eye hold onto that beautiful life vision you have for yourself and let that be your motivation to keep pushing forward, regardless.

2. Forget Luck

You make your own destiny. You might be tempted to blame negative experiences on ‘bad luck’, leading you to believe that you are helpless to whatever curveballs or unexpected events the universe might want to throw at you. But remember, there is no such thing as ‘luck’.

Your world and your life is what you and you alone make it. Use this knowledge as power; no matter what is happening in your life right now, you have the power to change it… whether this takes days, weeks or even months.

So forget what may be outside of your control right now; what is?

3. See Your Scars As Strength

It is rare for any person to go through life and not experience past hurts, pain or regret. However, until you are able to accept and learn from these experiences, you will struggle to enjoy the here and now. So how should you deal with these demons? The most powerful, positive approach would be to learn to look at your scars as causes for strength.

Everything that happens to you will only make you stronger. Every time you feel vulnerable to negative thoughts, remember this and remind yourself that every single day you are only getting better and better.

4. Realize You’re Not Alone

When life’s getting you down, it is easy to become isolated in your grief, struggles or even shame. What you need to remember, however, is that no matter what you’re going through, there will be others who are going through the exact same, or probably worse.

This isn’t supposed to depress you, but instead, to make you see that you are never alone in what you’re going through.

So take comfort that there is someone right now who understands exactly what you’re going through, and use this as courage to reach out to the people around you. No one should suffer alone and the odds are, this wouldn’t only help you but also really benefit someone else who needs someone to talk to.

5. Share Your Story

Now, take the next step and work on actively reaching out to other people who may be able to support you during this time.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Nine times out of ten, when someone reaches out and shares their story, they often say they wished they’d done it sooner.

When you let people in, you’ll be surprised by the number of people who’ve had similar experiences. There are so many kind people around you who would love to listen, and it is true what they say, a problem shared is a problem halved.
