Let’s take a look at 7 things that are holding you back from achieving your dreams.
If you stick to what you think is right and are not open to any different ideas, you won’t go any further than you already are.
If you can listen to others and see things from their perspectives, you can become more open to new ideas.
Try not to stay in the same frame of mind. Do not refuse to look at things in a different way, as you will only get so far. You may become disheartened when you can’t get any further. If you listen to others advice and perspectives, you will then become closer to achieving your dreams as you will learn more from others and have an open mind.
If you find yourself asking the ‘what if’ questions, you may be holding yourself back. We can sit and worry about ‘what if’s’, but this won’t help. Instead of asking yourself ‘What if this is going to fail and I won’t get anywhere’, instead ask ‘Should I try doing this instead of what I did before?’.
If you can ask yourself questions that help your journey, you will find yourself getting closer to your dreams, not stopping you.
When you are doubting yourself, and asking yourself negative questions, you are more likely to experience self-doubt and may stop trying. Try and ask yourself questions that are going to benefit and motivate you even more to reach your goals, not questions that may hinder your performance.
If we don’t assess our mistakes, we won’t know why we are not achieving what we want to achieve. When we go back and look at our journey, we are then able to see what we have done wrong. We can then look to changing and improving from our mistakes. If you are failing over and over again, whilst doing the same mistake over and over, you will not reach your goals.
When you can reflect on what is going wrong, you can try again and find the solution to the problem instead of repeating the same mistakes and not achieving your dreams. This is the main reason to assess your mistakes, to improve and come back stronger from them.
If you find that you procrastinate a lot when it comes to taking the steps to achieve your goals, then you are definitely holding yourself back. There is no ‘right’ moment, as much as you might try and wait for one. A way to look at this is, we only have one life and it’s short, if not now, then when?
If you can get started straight away, you are one step closer to achieving your goals and dreams then if you haven’t started at all. Every moment is an opportunity! Don’t wait and kick yourself later because it’s too late to try and reach a certain goal that you waited for.
Another thing to do is to learn the best way to manage your time. Once you have done this you should find yourself procrastinating a lot less.
If you do not have a clear vision or an idea of what goals you are wanting to reach, you are not going to achieve them. It’s always good to know what it is that you want. This makes it much easier to start taking the steps you need to take to reach your end goal.
It could help to share your ideas with others. See if friends or family can help you figure out what you are trying to achieve. You need to be able to visualize what it is you want and then go for it, this will be much easier. If you are unsure of what your passion/goals are, then have a look at this article on using visualization to find your true purpose.
It’s very easy to fear being judged and being worried about what others think, but this is something that you are personally letting happen to stop you from achieving your dreams. You may be worried about going for something and having people judge you for it, so you don’t reach those goals and you give up.
So, you have to realize that the people who care don’t matter and that this is your own life! You should be doing the things you love and enjoy without worrying about what others might think of you. Don’t let others stand in the way of your dreams. Go for your goals and succeed! You’ll probably be surprised to see that most people are worrying about themselves and are not really judging you at all.
Certain things in life, such as achieving your dreams, takes time. If you are impatient and expect results straight away, you may feel discouraged and angry when these goals are not met straight away, or as quick as you would like.
When you give up on your goals straight away because they are taking time, you are obviously not going to achieve many of your goals. You have to remember that achieving your goals is a big achievement. It won’t just happen overnight. Take your time, and know that if it’s taking longer than you expected, it will just be even more worth it in the end. Keep going and don’t give up! Be patient and look forward to reaching your end result.
